Celebrating Juneteenth
Introduction to Juneteenth
At A Quest Actors Studio, we believe in promoting diversity and inclusivity through the power of performing arts. Join us in Celebrating Juneteenth, a historical event that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, holds immense significance for the African American community and serves as a reminder of the progress made towards equality and justice.
The Significance of Juneteenth
Juneteenth marks the day when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to announce the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of enslaved individuals. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation being issued two years earlier, the news of freedom had not reached all states. On Juneteenth, enslaved African Americans were finally granted their freedom.
